Spring Retreat 2011

Wow! ..seems like it was just yesterday! This summer has proven to be so cool and wet that I feel that summer has for the most part passed us by!

That being said ... Spring Retreat was a Wonderful Success once again!

It was great to see and renew our quilting friendships!, and to welcome new quilters!

Many Quilts were completed and/or put well onto the road of completion! Lots of Giggles! and Fun was had by all!

The door prize entry request this year was "Bring a Quilt for Your Bed!"

Wow!! Deb and I had the pleasure of photographing the beds adorned with their fine dressings!

What a spectacular display of talent, color, and energy!

I would like to share with you the photo's we took, please forgive me if some of the bed quilts are missing...unfortunately only being a "home photographer" some of my photo's didn't come out as clear as they need to be to post on the web....my sincere apologies if I missed your bed quilt!!

Hope you enjoy once again a stroll past the beds at Rock Nest Spring Retreat 2011!!

Curved Peddles Mini Workshop!

Jocelyn certainly did an awesome job of showing everyone how to sew  curved petals! Lots of giggles, exclamations, and heavy sighs as everyone pinned, pinned, pinned, and some yes I am sorry to say...reverse sewed! But all was good and really awesome blocks of creative curved petals were achieved! It will be great fun to see how everyones blocks turned out!

It was great to see Mary R. back sewing...she has just returned from visiting family in Ontario. Welcome back to Corrie also! We missed Linda as she is helping Ron make a recovery from recent shoulder surgery. Kim is in PG with her hubby he also is recovering from surgery...hang in there guys and gals!! Heal fast Fellows!

Everyone else, we missed you also! Hope you will be able to join us at the next QDO!

Here is a photo of Jocelyn with her two beautiful "Curved Petal" wall hangings! (soon to be 3!)
Her Quilting of the Large Wall Hanging was "Exquisite!" We are all waiting to see how she decides to quilt the smaller one!

Deb was putting on the finial border on her own self designed quilt which she is making for her granddaughter!

Looking good Deb!

Dorothy was busy squaring up small 1/2 square triangle blocks that will be incorporated into another community quilt some time in the future.  Lubica, and Coralee dropped in to visit as did several quilters during the day.. some staying awhile.. some on the run to another event..it was great to see all of you! Sorry I can not name  each of you, as I was only a brief drop in myself!

Big Thank you to Deb..who was the QDO hostess today! I made sure I came down for morning coffee break to enjoy one of her yummy cinnamon buns!! and of course to see all the awesome quilting projects and say hello.... Mattea also agreed with me the C.Buns are sooo yummy!

Although I didn't stay for lunch ..the aromatic aromas coming from the soup pot were delectable!

Hope I will see the soup recipe come to me in my email soon..so I can add it to the Soup Recipes for our little Cook Book!!
I already have the Cinnamon Bun Recipe.

Psssst!...Remember girls?! I need those recipes!!

Remember to email Jocelyn if you want to participate in the mini workshop she is leading the next quilters day out! She will have all the details for you! There is some prep. cutting to do in order to participate so do not dillydaddle if you want to participate in the fun!

Here are some photo's from the last QDO

Pamela was delighted to return to Jocelyn her "Block of the Month Sampler Quilt" all quilted! We are all waiting to see it once again when the binding is on!

A Great little Quilt that is now completed and will held in ready as a Community Quilt!

Another Community Quilt that is finished..note the angled corners! Really nice variation!

And YES! Kim! WE LIKE IT! So it is official!...this quilt can have a home in any of the homes of the quilters who  attended the last QDO!

Okay! so what is this?..your guess is as good as mine! Seems I hit the shutter button instead of the off button during the meeting...Hmmm!

The meeting was extensive and much was covered.

It was great to receive the feedback letters from the Smithers Ladies, with regards to the Rough Acres Fall Retreat. This has helped us to make some  adjustments to our plans for the Spring Retreat! All comments were noted and will be acted on to the best of our abilities..
Jocelyn will be sending out the min. from the meeting and contacting various committee heads that were not able to attend,.. to catch them up on the actions voted on and passed at this meeting.

And so...the New Year has begun! With the meeting adjourned, and a delightful lunch in our tummies (Thanks Kim for jumping in and helping Ena out with preparing the lunch!) And the goodies were Delightful! ..gotta love those peanutbutter marshmallow squares!! and Dark chocolate cake with brown sugar icing and....and..! Everyone returned to working on their various projects!

Looking forward to the next QDO on January 22nd.! See you all there!

                                     I'll take one little stitch...
And then I'll take one more,
Only my good habits and potentials
                                        Will I totally explore!

I'll keep all my projects in focus,
                                        (what ever they may be??..)
                                       In hope to  be so inspired;
To complete them yes .."Tut Sweet"!
                                   (Whew!..as I am typing this....
                                       I'm getting pretty tired!)

I'll give up all bad habits;(hmmm!?)
I'll listen and learn a lot!
All My Quilts will be finished,
                                      Sigh.....or.. maybe not?!

Quilters Day Out Sat. Oct. 16th.

It was a Great turn out for the Oct. 16th. QDO With only a few absent faces!

Big thank you to Kim who provided an awesome soup and yummy goodies for all...I hear via the grape -vine that the Cookies were a particular hit!
  (Recipes?? )

Linda brought the Ribbon Quilt that she Lead the making for that was made for Corrie...everyone who has seen it tells me it is awesome! Also Ena did a spectacular quilting job!

Linda tells us that with each signature on the ribbons there was an outpouring of hope and prayer for a speedy recovery!

We miss your cherry face Corrie and exquisite work. We all wish you a speedy recovery and quick return to our little group!

Around the Room ...Kim was working on a beautiful autumn table runner for her Mom, Mary F was adding to her blocks from Donna's Mystery quilt 2010 workshop.

Mary R. and Sharon  were working on their Storm at Sea 2009 workshop ..hmmm I think there are a few more of those "Storm at Sea" projects to be completed yet .... ?

Sue J was busy stitching more miles of purple bias for her Celtic Chain on the "One Block Wonder" quilt ! (Anyone else out there needing to finish one of these?  I believe that it was a 2008 Quilt Workshop. hmmm ...yup that would be me!)

Heidi was busy working on completing the "Last" of her House Blocks...although someone said they thought they saw her starting on another???

Anne was peacefully doing hand stitching on a beautiful Celtic Wall Hanging.

Coralee spent the day pondering her newest "Baby" ...a new quilting machine!

Kerstin Dropped by (Coralee's daughter) and showed everyone her 6-12th. Century Attires.. that she has made for a Period Dress Gathering  she was to be attending in town. ...

Linda proclaimed that she just "wasted the day" ..however we all know that she really was busy sorting through the G to G packages and now has them all recorded and ready for people to take away and sew.

And then who should appear ??.... But Mary R with 4 completed G to G bags on her arm of which 2 were promptly snapped up!

Suzanne and Jocelyn were busy little sewers and worked on making G to G bags.

Dorothy, Ena, Kirsty, and Val joined the group at noon for the meeting.

Notes of interest from the meeting.. are.

--the group voted that there will not be a Spring Quilt Show this year  and we will instead look to  holding one the Spring of 2012 in conjunction with the Houston Trade Show.
--Charity Quilts: Suzannes friends from Terrace have graciously donated several blocks which Ena, and Coralee and anyone else interested may help sort through to see how many tops we can make.
--Deb applied for and received $600 dollars from the BV Credit Unions to put towards this years Quilt Making.  Anyone has ideas for quilts please let us know and we can plan ahead.
Pamela , Deb, Kim and Anne  are busy organizing a Community  Quilt for Pat who is battling Leukaemia, in the lower mainland Cancer Unit.
